Malaysia Trip......

I just returned from Malaysia last night. While I was on the trip I kept a small log of what I was doing. Hope you don't find it too boring;;;;;

Wednesday 2nd May (Morning Time)

What a start to my trip.

We booked the taxi to take me to Bangkok to pick me up at 5.30am. I had my alarm set for 5am. At 4.45 am the taxi driver calls to say he’s almost there. 45 mins early. I’m used to them being 45 minutes late!!

And the rain!! My god it’s pouring. I’ve had to put all my luggage etc into big garbage bags to keep them from getting wet. Me, I’m drenched. I’m sitting now in the taxi soaked to the bone, and cold. I’ve decided to type this now so maybe the heat from the laptop battery can warm me up, and maybe dry my pants out some.

I’m not sure I trust my driver very much, every 5 seconds he adjusts the radio volume, he only turns the windscreen wipers on when he completely cannot see anymore, and he doesn’t know Bangkok. The airport, yes, but I’m not going there yet. I’m going to the Grand Hyatt Hotel for some management training first. I have to tell him where to go. Figures. Bit like the rag heads that drive taxis in Australia. Except the difference is this guy’s a local!!! (Whereas the rag heads in Oz are just there to bring their family of 500 over and then change our laws)

It is so hard to type. Not only is the road shit, but this driver only likes to brake when he’s almost on top of the car in front. My laptop keeps trying to slide onto the floor.

Ok, I’m going to try to get some shut eye. I’ll type some more on the plane tonight if I get bored.

Wednesday 2nd May (Afternoon Time)

Well, I made it into Bangkok in one piece. I even made it on time!! But going from the main office to the training course meant a trip on the subway and sky train. I have never seen so many people fit into a subway carriage. You even have people not in completely until the doors push them in. Tightly. When the train starts to move, everybody moves with it, no one falls over because you’re packed too tightly.

On the way back after the training hardly anyone was on it. Probably still more than Melbourne or Sydney on a busy day, but here hardly anyone.

So here I am at the airport, awaiting my plane. I have just over an hour before we board. So we are just sitting here reading and trying not to argue…..

I’ll catch you all later……

Thursday 3rd May (Night Time)

Ok guys, here I am on my last night in Malaysia. We are having an early night due to a big day tomorrow. We have to be at the Petronas Twin Towers by 8.30am so we can go up onto the platform that joins the two towers at 170 odd metres up. For those of you that either know of these towers or those that I have sent a postcard to, you’ll know what I mean. For those of you that don’t, look it up….

So Wednesday night we arrived into KLIA (Kuala Lumpur International Airport). It was close to midnight by this time. We caught the last of the express trains into KL. This is a 70 odd km trip, and it takes 28 minutes. Not bad. Better than a taxi. We ended up getting into our room at around 1.30am. I had to get up early to go to the Royal Thai Embassy, so straight to sleep for me.

The following day after I’d finish my business we went to the Petronas Twin Towers. Boy are these things tall!! Around 450 metres straight up. And very fascinating to look at too. In the centre at the base is this large 6 floor shopping mall. Majority of the shops are well known brand names, and some are VERY expensive. I seen a watch for a little over AUD$16,000. It was so good, it was almost a perfect copy of the exact same watch in Thailand that retails for around 399 baht (AUD$13.70).

So we walked around for several hours until our feet were sore. We got a taxi and came back to the hotel. At dark we went back again, but only for dinner. Now, it’s bed time. Tomorrow will be fun. I’ll update ya'll some more tomorrow while I’m at KLIA again waiting for the plane to take me home to Thailand………

Friday 4th May (Afternoon Time)

Aaahhh, it’s nearly over. Today was the longest day, and it’s only half way through it!! We went shopping today with the little money we had. My partner wanted to get some small gifts for her friends. Talk about taking her time, we were in this one cheap jewellery store, and she took a total of 3.5 hrs to buy 10 items!!!! My feet are killing me from standing around waiting (I had nothing I wanted to look at or buy).

But now finally we are in the express train that takes us to the airport in 28 minutes. We are just waiting for it to leave the Station. Then we check in and fly home.

I always believe that no matter how great a holiday is, most of the time it’s great to get home.

Saturday 5th May (Night Time)

Well, I’m home. We got home late last night. Slept for so long it wasn’t funny. Then today we went and picked the dog up. He went nuts after not seeing us for 3 days. So tonight we are just chillin.

One negative about Malaysia was the smoking. In the lobby, restaurants, shops etc, there are no laws stopping people from smoking basically wherever they want. For me this was disgusting. I bypassed any place where they had ashtrays on the table. I hate eating when someone lights up.

Other than that it was a good holiday. So I’ll leave it here good readers, and chat to you later

Cheers
