What's In A Name

A few years ago, well, a long bloody time ago, about 7 years, me and a few mates were into the craze of making our own home brew. Remember how you used to be able to buy the essence, and then make the drink? I used to make Sambucca all the time. Was pretty good. I think if I'd have kept drinking it I'd be dead now.

Anyways, one weekend we'd been making heaps of these bottles. The next morning we needed a good old 'hair of the dog', so we mixed what was left into one glass, and drank it. BAD!!! We sat there and came up with the name Swampdonkey. Hence, my email was born, swampdonkey_2000@hotmail.com. A few years later, I changed the ingredients of the drink, and boy is it a nice one (so I think). In a shot glass, you put

1/3 Baileys
1/3 Banana Liqueur
1/3 Green Ginger Wine

Then drink quickly because it curdles…..

I was doing a Google search today, and searched Swampdonkey. Wow, what a lot of hits. But nothing for me. Seems it's a very popular word. One site was something to do with absolute worship of Satan. Some people had websites called it. One website had the meaning of it, (www.urbandictionary.com). Here's what the Urban Dictionary says Swampdonkey means

1. A woman so ugly you wouldn't touch her with a barge pole strapped to the end of a pole vault pole

2. A really sloppy, annoying, and usually slightly overweight sorority girl.

3. Descriptive for less than average looking bird when out on the pull.

4. An ugly or disgusting girl.

5. Someone who is seriously ugly and needs urgent plastic surgery if they are going to get anywhere in life.

6. A female meth addict. One who offers sex in exchange for oatmeal or cereal.

Well, interesting. Sounds like they've just described 75% of the female population of the towns from around where I grew up (I won't mention which towns they were, but they start with H, H, L and C). Although we had a more traditional Aussie term for those girls - Bush pigs…. Or Hoon Dogs….

But to me Swampdonkey will always be my drink. I even named my boat it.
