There's a saying in Australia - The Race That Stops A Nation. That stupid Melbourne Cup. All it is, is an excuse for fools to gamble, women to dress up and think they're prettier than the other girls (when they all actually look like stuck up wenches), and drunken idiots going to watch a bunch of dumb animals run around in a circle with a dwarf strapped to their backs.
No, the real race that’s stops the nation begins in just a little under 47 hours. You know the race I'm talking about. If you don't, then you're either not Aussie, or female. I'm talking about 161 laps around the greatest circuit that man has ever created. Mount Panarama should be listed as a seventh wonder of the world.
I've driven around the track myself once. And the feeling you get as you come down Conrod straight is electrifying, even at the speed limit of 60km an hour. As you start the journey down the hill, your mind remembers just how fast the Holdens and Fords go down that same stretch during the race. With speeds of up to 300km and over on offer, all you want to do is just put your foot down and go for it. But of course it's not the time, nor would the car get close to the same speeds plus there's obviously a speed camera there somewhere.
The race I'm talking about starts at 10am Aussie time on Sunday. Which means I'll be getting out of bed around 6am here in Thailand. I can't believe I get the race live. Including the post race Brocky special. Gonna be a huge day, because after the race there's yet another interesting race. The Japanese Grand Prix. Sport Sport Sport. But, this weekend is the second last weekend of sport for me. No more car racing, no more football soon. I hate cricket and tennis, no skills or fun in those crap games.
My prediction this year for Bathurst, I'm a Holden man thru and thru, yet I think Ingall is gonna pull it off. I just hope Lowndes or Skaife don't. They are the two biggest F wits in the sport. Oh, and good luck to Albury's Brad Jones. HE keeps trying, but never gets anywhere, bit like an 18 year old virgin in a strip joint...
Go The Holdens, and I have work to do, so until next time….
Cheers
